Developed during a residency at Elsewhere Artist Collaborative, "The Pile Comes to Life" is a performance/seance with a garden rake, teacup glockenspiel, and a pile of discarded clothes that comes to life. One of the essential questions I wanted to deal with while at Elsewhere was the question of the former lives of the objects in the collection. Did they still retain some of the lives of their owners, a "spirit" for lack of a better term, or had that been drained and the objects discarded, waited to be filled with new meaning?
