Paris With No People

Part of a series of conceptually re-edited Hollywood feature films, all scenes with a person have been removed from the film "Paris, Texas". The result is a stuttering and flowing in-between, leaving a strangely recognizable version of the original but also a wholly new, empty meditation on loneliness.

As with much of my work, a rubric for the creation of the piece was set up beforehand. While the system is conceptually and poetically tied to the source, the ultimate result is not planned but realized after the rubric is carried out. My interest in building systems in this way comes from a process of sympathetic observation and exploration of the scintillations found in minute variations.
